If only one session is available in Windows Server 2008 and you take over another person's live session, you may choose to enable multiple RDP sessions. This article describes the process on how to enable and disable multiple sessions.
To enable single remote desktop sessions, follow these steps:
1. Log in to a server by using Remote Desktop Connection.
2. Click the Start button. Then, go to Administrative Tools -> Remote Desktop Service -> Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.
3. Double click the
Restrict each user to a single session item under the
Edit setting region. See screenshot 1.

4. In the
Properties window, check the
Restrict each user to a single session box. Then, click the
OK button. See screenshot 2.

To enable multiple remote desktop sessions, follow these steps:
1. Log in to a server by using Remote Desktop Connection.
2. Click the Start button. Then, go to Administrative Tools -> Remote Desktop Service -> Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.
3. Double click the Restrict each user to a single session item under the Edit setting region. See screenshot 1.
4. In the
Properties window, uncheck the
Restrict each user to a single session box. Then, click the
OK button. See screenshot 4.
Note If you receive the following error message after you enable or disable multiple remote desktop session, click the
OK button. See screenshot 3.
