How to reload OS with Ubuntu 20

Introduction

This tutorial will show you how to reload OS with Ubuntu 20 and it will also tell you how to create Software RAID in Ubuntu 20.

Step 1: Attach the ISO via IPMI

For how to access the IPMI console, please refer to the KB at https://portal.databasemart.com/kb/a714/how-to-access-console-via-ipmi.aspx .

Step 2: Change the boot option in BIOS

The first boot item should be "CD/DVD" and the second boot item should be the system disk.

Step 3: Proceed the installation

3.1 Please select the option as the following screenshot.

Sometimes it will take too much time to load the next page. Please just wait until it finishes and do not interrupt it.

3.2 Choose the language and other default options.

3.3 Configure the network.

3.4 Leave the proxy as empty.

3.5 Use the default archive mirror.

3.6 Use the custom storage layout.

3.6.1 Format all disks.

3.6.2 Make the partitions.

Case1: If the plan is SSD product, we should configure the disks with RAID. Please do it as follows:

A: Please select one disk as the boot device and then make the two partitions: 4GB and other remaining space. Please leave the two partitions as "unformatted".
B: Please select the other one disk and make the two partitions: 4GB and other remaining space. Please leave the three partitions as "unformatted".
C: Click "Create sofware RAID(md)" and create two RAID 1: the one includes two 4GB partitions and then mount it to "Swap". The other one includes another two partitions and then mount it "/"

Case 2: If the server is Bare Metal or GPU product, we just need to create partitions for the system disk.

Please just create two partitions: 4GB for swap and other remaining space should be mounted to "/".

3.7 Set up profile.

3.8 Install OpenSSH.

3.9 Leave it as the default option.

After that, the OS will begin the installation. When it is finished, please just remove the ISO and press "Enter", then the server will reboot itself. And when it finishes the rebooting, you will see the login page and then please test if SSH is accessible.
